Human-Robot Communication with Hand-Clapping Language (Consideration from Communication Impedance Matching Viewpoint)

چکیده
Conventionally, human-robot communication and robot-robot communication are dealt with in different manners in general. From the viewpoint of cooperation between human staff and robots as a heterogeneous group, however, it is natural and desirable that all of the communication within the group is performed based on a uniform communication manner. In this study, we deal with a communication method that can be adopted for both human-robot and robot-robot communication. We discuss a communication style by means of simple sound such as the hand-clapping. A communication language is introduced; the configuration of syllables, the words and their parts of speech and the syntax are discussed and designed from a general point of view. A perceptibility assessment is performed for the syllables. A preliminary experimental study is performed and the feasibility of the proposed human-robot communication style is examined. The concept of communication impedance matching is introduced as an analogy of the electric impedance matching. The feasibility of the proposed communication method is also discussed from this point of view.

Asymmetrical-fed RHCP Wide-Band Slot Element for X-Band applications
An outstanding square slot element, for x-band wireless applications with asymmetric coplanar waveguide fed (CPW) is proposed. Various shapes of metallic strips are utilized as grounded stubs for providing Right Hand Circular Polarization (RHCP) functionality and wide-band properties. By adjusting the proposed stubs and hook-shaped radiator, length and positions, wider impedance band width is o...
متن کاملThe sound of one-hand clapping: handedness and perisylvian neural correlates of a communicative gesture in chimpanzees.
Whether lateralization of communicative signalling in non-human primates might constitute prerequisites of hemispheric specialization for language is unclear. In the present study, we examined (i) hand preference for a communicative gesture (clapping in 94 captive chimpanzees from two research facilities) and (ii) the in vivo magnetic resonance imaging brain scans of 40 of these individuals. Th...
متن کاملCognition-enabled Task Interpretation for Human-Robot Teams in a Simulation-based Search and Rescue Mission
Due to humans and robots complementary capabilities, mixed human-robot teams are considerably deployed in realworld settings. A favored communication means is the natural language used by humans that is still a challenge for robotic teammates. They need to understand the environment from the viewpoint of their human teammates in order to be able to translate the instructions received in the nat...
متن کاملImpedance-based Transparency Analysis of Haptic Telepresence Systems
This paper provides a performance analysis of haptic (forcereflecting) telepresence systems. It is discussed how the mechanical properties displayed to the human operator are distorted from the mechanical properties of the remote environment. Reasons for distortions are communication delay and dynamics in the teleoperator and human-system interface. This work is related to earlier publications ...
متن کاملLearning from Unscripted Deictic Gesture and Language for Human-Robot Interactions
As robots become more ubiquitous, it is increasingly important for untrained users to be able to interact with them intuitively. In this work, we investigate how people refer to objects in the world during relatively unstructured communication with robots. We collect a corpus of deictic interactions from users describing objects, which we use to train language and gesture models that allow our ...
